1. What is Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion?
Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion is a long-acting antibacterial barrier lotion that kills pathogens on contact. It prevents dermal absorption of solvents, cleaning compounds, biological fluids, odorous compounds and workplace soiling agents.
2. What pathogens and chemicals has Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion been tested on in the lab and in the field?
The list includes E.coli, Strep, Staphylococcus Aureus, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Micrococcus, Proteus, Serratia, Salmonella, DMSO (Dimethyl Slfoxide), MEK (Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone), formaldehyde, and Skydrol hydraulic fluid. Skin Shield is also effective against superbugs such as MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus) and VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci).
3. How do I use Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion?
Hands should be clean, well rinsed of any soap residue, and dry. Dispense single dose of Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion into palm. The standard adult dose is 0.6ml (wall-mountable dosing dispensers are available). Massage Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion into hands and include the wrists. Work into cuticles, under fingernails, and be sure to cover any chapped or cracked skin, small cuts or abrasions – any and all areas vulnerable to pathogens. When lotion begins to feel tacky, stop massaging. Let dry for 30 seconds, or until your hands feel completely dry. Repeat this process every 4 hours for pathogens, and every 6 hours for chemicals.
4. Is Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion safe to use?
Completely and absolutely. Made from G.R.A.S. ingredients, the lotion is non-toxic, non-irritating to eyes (Draize Test), fragrance free, and free of ethyl alcohol and IPA. Sense of touch and dexterity remain unaffected. The lotion is cost-effective protection against pinholes in latex gloves, and against latex allergens and other forms of irritant contact dermatitis. Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion is also safe for kids and pets to use.
5. Has Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion been approved?
Yes, by Agri-Food Canada and Health Canada (DIN 02171651). Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion is the only barrier lotion with DIN approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for use in food service areas (see http://www.cfia-acia.agr.ca).

7. How long does Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion last?
Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion offers continuous antibacterial protection for 4 hours, even with repeated hand washing, perspiration, and application of alcohol sanitizer. Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion provides continuous protection against harsh chemicals for 6 hours, but some studies have shown the barrier effect itself can last up to 8 hours. We recommend, however, that the lotion be reapplied every 6 hours for full protection against harsh chemicals.
8. Does Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion complement hand washing protocols? Protective gloves? Other kinds of skin lotion?
When used properly, Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion promotes and reinforces hand washing, sanitizing, and protective glove protocols. Compliance with such protocols should improve because Bio-Safe® Skin Shield™ lotion helps prevent skin breakdown and reaction from repeated hand washing, glove wearing and use of alcohol sanitizers. Its polymer technology also works with pre-application of retail hand lotions.
